Design & Horticulture Programs
Design Exhibits & Workshops
The design theme to be exhibited on a particular general meeting date is indicated in the calendar. Exhibits include fresh or dried plant material, organized according to the principles and elements of design, and as explained in the National Garden Club (NGC) Handbook for Flower Shows. Submissions are judged and followed by a group critique/discussion to educate members on the principles of design
This program is coordinated and judged by a Club member whose credentials include National Garden Club (NGC) Accredited Judge and Master Gardener.
When you exhibit, please remember to:
- Have completed design in place by 10 a.m. for judging (by 5 p.m. for evening meetings).
- Follow every specification in the schedule carefully.
- Fill out entry card with complete information (botanical names are not required).
Horticulture Exhibits
Horticulture is the art and science of growing flowers, ornamental plants, fruits and vegetables.
Members are encouraged to submit plant material for judging at select general meetings. The type of plant material to be exhibited for a particular meeting date is indicated in the calendar. Submissions are judged and followed by a group critique/discussion to educate members on the principles of horticulture.
To be eligible to be judged, plant material must have been in the member’s possession for at least three months. Each member is allowed to exhibit up to six entries. The National Garden Club (NGC) Handbook for Flower Shows contains additional information.
This program is coordinated and judged by a Club member whose credentials include Member of The Federated Garden Clubs of CT (FGCC) Landscape Design Council and Master Gardener.
When you exhibit, please remember to:
- Have specimens in place before judging begins at 11 a.m. (at 5:30 p.m. for evening meetings).
- Provide your own container(s), unless otherwise specified in the schedule.
- Fill out entry card(s) with complete botanical name(s).
- Contact horticulture chair before meeting if assistance is needed.
Note: An educational table, not included in the judging, will be offered at every meeting. Members are encouraged to share examples of plant material not included in the schedule or plants that they would like to have identified.
